In this section we from mypfote.com - we are happy dog owners ourselves - collect questions that we ourselves would have when choosing a collar. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Our support can be reached by email at support@mypfote.com.
Can the leather collars from mypfote.com also be used for smaller dogs?
Of course, because leather is a natural material and impresses with flexibility, quality and durability. With the right care you will have a leather collar for many years. Not only larger dogs, but also for small dogs the engraved leather collars from mypfote.com are very suitable, because these are available in small sizes, e.g. S for Small in a diameter of 25-30cm neck circumference. The engraving gives the collar the individuality and the reference to your darling. In addition, the engraved phone number can ensure that in the event that the dog runs away, it can be returned quickly.
What is the best way to care for leather collars?
A dog collar, no matter what material it is made of, is always subject to special wear and tear. The collar is exposed to moisture, dryness, wetness, cold and UV radiation. These are environmental factors that can also take their toll on the leather and the engraved brand and other metal parts such as rivets or the buckle of the collar. It is essential to treat the engraved surface together with the leather after contact with water.
We recommend the collar after heavy soiling first a rough cleaning with a brush, a slightly damp sponge or cloth. Make sure that the leather does not soak and become excessively wet. As a cleaning agent you can use leather soap or saddle soap, which is excellent for cleaning the leather. Once the leather collar is cleaned, you can dry it slowly - please do not put it on the heater, in the blazing sun or other "fast" methods like hair dryer or oven. This will only damage the leather.
After cleaning, the leather should be greased when dry. There are several possibilities for this. On the one hand, transparent shoe care is of course a good choice - there are also special leather oils available on the market. Coconut oil, castor oil and beeswax are also recommended in some forums. Do not apply too much, but regularly and in smaller amounts. Then you will have a lot of fun with the collar together with your quadruped.
Selection of the dog collar - which material is best for my dog?
As a dog owner you naturally ask yourself the question - does it have to be leather? Is perhaps a fabric collar or a dog collar made of nylon better suited? Of course, this question can not be answered in general and from our point of view it depends on taste and budget. Nylon collars are very durable, long-lasting and can also be washed with plenty of water and normal soap, which may not be done with the leather collar. Nylon collars are not very stretchy and can also rub on the skin of dogs with very short coats. A leather collar is a real eye-catcher and usually always looks a little more noble, especially if an engraving has been applied.
You get the collars individually or with leash as a set in our shop. No matter which collar you choose, it should be engraved with a name tag in any case, because our four-legged darlings should be able to be brought back to you immediately without reading the chip.
Dog collar or chest harness? What is the best way to choose?
Here there are even among the experts many and heated discussions, which product is now best suited for the dog. However, there are a few good arguments for the classic collar. Especially in the education and control of the dog, the collars play a major role. The collar is very suitable to control and guide the dog when "walking". Personally, I use for our French Bulldog the combination of soft fabric collar or the chic "going out leather collar" and a durable harness made of nylon, because especially short-nosed breeds, such as German Boxer, Pug or French or English Bulldog often have enough breathing difficulties anyway, you should not allow these breeds too much pressure on the collar. A leash with one snap hook per end is the solution here - one end of the leash is attached to the collar and the other end to the harness.
